Whenever the word abstinence comes up, it is automatically assumed that we are talking about getting teens to wait to have sex until they are married. However, it is actually a much broader subject and abstinence can be practiced all throughout life whether or not you are in a committed relationship. There are several advantages to abstaining from sex for a time period especially for people that may have sexual addictions (or borderline addictions).
